Why Chestnut
Here at Moores we are beginning to get fed up of rotten posts and inconsistent timber treatment! Thats why we are promoting the use of British grown Chestnut.
'Out with the old & in with the Chestnut'
Why is Chestnut the Answer?
Since the 2004 EU wide ban of Chromated Copper Arsenic (CCA) the timber tantalising process has become unreliable. Fast grown softwood fence posts are now performing poorly with stakes rotting off at ground level within 4 to 5 years.
Chestnut fence posts offer an affordable and durable answer. The lack of sapwood and the naturally high levels of Tannin mean Chestnut is hard, strong and rot resistant. With a competitive price tag and an expected lifespan of over 15 years Chestnut offers an attractive, affordable solution to the modern tantalised problem.
All of our timber is sourced from managed woodlands in the south of England. The trees are winter cut, which decreases sap levels in the wood and ensures longevity. The timber is then processed traditionally, cutting and clefting them to the desired length, before pointing them for use. Chestnut creates an attractive, eco-friendly fence that will last the test of time.
